Zoll D

Lukas Buol, Marco Zünd

Zoll D
Inserted, not screwed, the Zoll D proves itself as a versatile quick-change artist. Boxes are inserted into the grooves of the shelf boards. The next board rests on these. In this way Zoll D grows in height tier for tier without using any tools.

The Hi-tech Plug-in Shelf

1.2 mm thin steel panels are reinforced by folding to make resilient shelf boards. Boxes are inserted exactly into the grooves. Boards and boxes form the individual levels without the use of tools or additional connecting parts. By turning the boxes the compartments can be equipped from all directions. The configuration can be extended later. The position of the boxes can be changed at any time.

Description

Zoll D

Design: Lukas Buol, Marco Zünd, 1993

Minimalistic and monomaterialic

Boxes and shelf boards are made of the same material. When assembled they create a reduced, linear shelf. 1.2 mm thin steel panels are reinforced by folding to make resilient shelf boards. Boxes are inserted exactly into the grooves. Boards and boxes form the individual levels without the use of tools or additional connecting parts. The configuration can be extended later. The position of the boxes can be changed at any time. By turning the boxes the compartments can be equipped from all directions.

How the shelf got its name

Two designers from Basel designed this variable and reduced shelf for us. And as simple as its assembly may appear, the more complex the conception and manufacture. After all grooves and boxes have to fit together exactly to guarantee stability. Our flexible shelf had to cross the border on a regular basis, and each time got the same stamp: Zoll D.

Technical Details / Notes

General Information

The boxes define the compartment height. They can be inserted optionally in four directions into the recess of the shelf boards. The arrangement can be changed at any time.

To create extended widths, several shelves can be lined up together end-to-end. The boxes are used as a visual optical connecting element. We recommend a maximum height of 150.0 cm. Wall assembly is not possible.

The feet are height-adjustable to balance out uneven floors. We recommend 6 feet per base board.
