Bookinist

Nils Holger Moormann

Bookinist
Bookinist is a movable chair designed especially for reading. It is based on the principle of a pushcart and can be rolled to any favourite spot. Like a small library, it houses books, writing utensils and a reading lamp. Browsing included, of course.

Everything close at hand

Bookinist, the mobile armchair, houses up to 80 paperbacks and also surprises its sitting guest with two hidden compartments in the armrests. Writing utensils are kept here: such as a magnifying glass, bookmark, pencil, rubber, sharpener and pocketbook. Whether day or night - the integrated reading lamp brightens up every moment.

Material
Corpus: FU (birch plywood)
Armrest compartment (inside): Maple untreated

Description

Bookinist

Design: Nils Holger Moormann, 2007

Wheelbarrow meets reading armchair

Originally Bookinist was not planned as serial furniture, but as an eye catcher for an exhibition presentation. Wheelbarrow meets reading armchair i.e. pragmatism meets humour. Thanks to its resounding success since 2007 the mobile piece of furniture is still a hot favourite. With its individual vehicle identification number each Bookinist, which is restricted to 18,000 pieces, is unique.

The hell of Aschau

The chassis of the hot reading chair is made by a neighbouring carpenter, not even 12 km away from us. The tyres, lighting and the seat covers are added in our logistics department. In 2011 three Bookinists were also equipped with a racing engine for a company event. 20 daring racing teams from the design branch competed in the race in Aschau. They all wanted to win. It was the hell of Aschau.

Material Properties and Care
Bookinist Material properties and care

FU Black (birch plywood)

Material properties:

Several birch veneers are cross-glued, creating a material with a high level of dimensional stability. Generally our birch plywood panels are surface-coated or oiled. They are produced in Finland. The slowly-growing trees in the Finnish climate create fine-grain wood of consistently high quality. The following properties can occur: knot inclusions on the edge and possibly different edge colors (image 1), inclusions, glossy stripes or matt areas on the surface (image 2).

Cleaning and care:

Light surface soiling on the untreated edges can be removed using fine-grain sandpaper. Coated surfaces can be cleaned using a soft cloth with lukewarm water and a small amount of colourless washing-up liquid. Please only wipe oiled surfaces with a slightly damp cloth and as necessary treat with colourless oil.
